Violence and Racism Issues in Public Schools

It is very important to find a right way to explain to parents that there is very small possibility of violence in a certain academic institution. It is better to explain and list the techniques applied at school for maximizing students’ safety. Among the many regulars ones are hiring security officers and installation of metal detectors. Importance of some activities has to be emphasized such as: peer mediation conflict and resolution programs, educating both staff and students on the first signs of violence and the right response, development of reporting security concerns mechanisms. Trauma is also minimized by teaching pro-social behaviors and life skills.

When answering parents’ question one should structure his response such way: first of all, he has to list undertaken measures that minimize any possibility of violence; secondly, he has to list the techniques and measures undertaken to make sure that there will be fast and educated response in case of violence, and finally, he should list programs which are aimed at progress of life skills among students to ensure that they can defend themselves. This strategy lets addressing the problem from many sides at one time.

In case of problems with communication of Asian kids with other pupils certain action have to be taken. The most obvious option is to create another education program which will be intended for Asian students. Depending on the number of Asian students and school’s resources, it can be as an optional activity after classes, or a defined education program. In case if resources of educational institution are limited, develop a separate program can be developed that is financed by Asian parents. Asian students oriented classes can also be introduced at an additional parents’ cost after providing an explanation that the school is public and resources are limited. Finally, the main study program can be modified with an emphasis on Asian students. This option does not require any additional financing, and satisfies both sides.
