Learn Languages

so i want to be a cultral anthropologist and study mainly asian countries. so i was wondering how long did u study abroad if u did. i found some scholarships in s. korea and japan and they last about 5 to 6 years. (the first year learning the languge and then the rest of the year learning whatever else) when i go there i want to get really good at the language and know alot of the culture but is 5 years to much or is that just right. i really want to study korea,japan,china and then a few years later depending how things are study in the middle east.
what do u think??
